Sitting on ancient rocks, more than 1.7 billion years old, looking at the water that floats around them, I wonder what they have witnessed so far. Must be amazing things
Ice polished granite rocks
Watercolor and text by Frits Ahlefeldt
The water around Ertholmene in the Baltic Sea has too little salt in it to support the mussels that cover the rocks in other places. So they are just soft and clean – and very ancient
Best part of walking them is when the sun has warmed them throughout the day and their gentle glowing surfaces, radiate the warmth still out in the evening.
I try to grasp their age, must be before almost all life forms existed. – More than a billion years before the dinosaurs… Wonder how we humans must look from their perspective
